Hickory Golf ist die traditionelle Variante des klassischen Golfsports, die mit Schlägern aus dem Holz des Hickorybaums gespielt wird. Diese Nussbaumart aus dem östlichen Nordamerika und China liefert das harte und zugleich elastische Holz für die Schäfte der Golfschläger. Bis zur Legalisierung der Stahlschäfte 1929 waren diese Schläger der Standard beim Golfspiel. John W. Fischer Jr. war 1936 der letze Gewinner eines Major Championships ( US Amateur Championship) mit Hickoryschlägern.  
 
  Hickory Golf is the traditional variation  of the classic game of golf, played with clubs made from the wood of the hickory tree. This type of walnut  tree from eastern North America and China provides the hard yet elastic wood needed for the club shafts. Geschichte
Hickory Golf wurde zu einem Synonym für Golf im Stil  früherer Zeiten           ( Vintage  Golf, Hickory Golf ) und hat weltweit viele Anhänger. Insbesondere im Vereinigten Königreich, das für viele als Mutterland des  Golfspiels gilt, wird diese Tradition hochgehalten. Heute finden wieder mehr Hickory Golfturniere und Meisterschaften statt, wo mit klassischen Schlägern und traditionellen Golfbällen sowie nach alten Regeln gespielt wird. In Deutschland wird seit 2009 jährlich unter der Schirmherrschaft der European Association of Golf Historians & Collectors ( EAGHC) die German Hickory Championship ausgetragen. In Österreich wurde 2011 der Hickory Golfclub Austria in Bad Ischl gegründet. 2016 ist das Gründungsjahr für Hickory Golf Burgenland im Reiters Golf & Country Club Bad Tatzmannsdorf. 2018 wurde in Radstadt der Hickory Golfclub Radstadt gegründet. Die Clubs veranstalten jährlich alternierend die Austrian Hickory Championship, sowie Clubmeisterschaften und viele weitere Turniere. Die World Hickory Championship findet jährlich in Schottland statt.

History
" Hickory Golf " has become the synonym for the game of golf played in the style of an earlier age (  Vintage Golf, Hickory Golf ) and is played by many people throughout the world. This tradition is especially kept in the United Kingdom,  known by many as the birthplace of golf. There are again today many Hickory Golf Tournaments and Championships being held,  played according to the old rules with classic clubs and traditional golf balls. The German Hickory Championship has been held in Germany every year since 2009 under the auspices of the European Association of Golf Historians & Collectors ( EAGHC ). In Austria, the Hickory Golf Club Austria  in 2011 in was founded in Bad Ischl. 2016 was the founding year of  Hickory Golf Burgenland at Reiters Golf & Country Club in Bad Tatzmannsdorf. And in 2018, the Hickory Golf Club Radstadt was founded in Radstadt, Austria. This clubs organize alternately the Austrian Hickory Championship on a yearly  basis, as well as Club Championships and many other Tournaments. The World Hickory Championship takes place every year in Scotland.

Equipment
Golf clubs made with Hickory shafts. The game is played with clubs made of hickory wood shafts with leather grips. rather than numbers, they have colourful

and more.  Golf balls used to be made from rubber-like gutta percha.  Nowadays, soft balls with low compression are used. 

Für Hickory-Golfer gibt es auch eine besonderen Dresscode: Man  kleidet sich beispielsweise imVereinigten Königreich wie zur Kolonialzeit oder in Österreich wie zur Kaiserzeit. Die Herren mit Schiebermütze, Knickerbocker, Kniestrümpfe, Sakko und Krawatte/Fliege. In der Westentasche gehört unbedingt der Flachmann. Die Damen mit langen Röcken und Bluse oder aber auch im Stile der Goldenen Zwanziger.

There is also a special dress code for Hickory Golf: In the United Kingdom one dresses as in the Colonial Period or in Austria as during the Imperial Age. A flat cap, knickerbockers, knee-high socks, a sports jacket and tie or bow tie for the gentlemen. The obligatory flask belongs in their vest pocket. Ladies wear long skirts and blouses or are dressed in style of the roaring twenties.

Philosophie
Enjoy the walk ist der Grundgedanke des Spiels mit Freude an den guten Schlägen und wo das Erlebnis über dem Ergebnis steht. Der Genuss an der Natur das Spiel beflügelt. Ebenso wird auf gesellschaftliche Komponente großen Wert gelegt, geselliges Beisammensein nach den Runden, Festen bei nationalen und internationalen Turnieren, Whiskyverkostungen, Zigarren, und vieles mehr machen Hickoryrunden zu bleibenden schönen Erinnerungen.

Philosophy
" Enjoy the walk " is the basic idea behind our game played with a pleasure for good strokes, where the experience is more importance than results. An enjoyment of nature inspires the game. The social aspect is also of special importance. Friendly get-togethers after the rounds, parties at national and international tournaments, whisky tastings, cigars and much more make Hickory rounds lasting special memories.
